Ernst Sigmund
Ernst Israel Sigmund was born on May 13, 1902, in Scheinfeld as the illegitimate son of Netta Sigmund and Michael Klauer. His father did not officially acknowledge him, although he was later ordered by the court to contribute to his son's maintenance. Netta was Jewish, while Michael's background was Christian. According to Jewish tradition, a child follows the religion of the mother; moreover, because Ernst grew up with her, he was considered Jewish and was part of the Jewish community.
From 1913, the eleven-year-old Ernst attended the Oberrealschule in Würzburg. During his school years, he stayed with various host families in the city. After completing his education in 1920, he returned to Scheinfeld. A year later, in July 1921, he moved to Munich, where he registered on the registration form of July 3 with the occupation "traveler." In November 1922, he left for Sofia, where he stayed until April 1924. He then returned to Scheinfeld via Munich, but only for a short time: as early as July 1924, he moved again, this time to Augsburg.
On August 20, 1925, the 23-year-old Ernst married Kätchen Kaufmann in Augsburg.
From January 1, 1926, Ernst Sigmund worked as a manager at the Ferdinand Schweizer company, a women's clothing store in Ingolstadt. The couple moved to Ludwigstr. 16. After a year and a half, on July 1, 1927, they moved again to Worms, near Frankfurt.
Ernst Sigmund worked as a manager at the Landauer department store in Worms. Landauer is a department store with a wide range of merchandise: clothing, textiles, household goods, and toys.
